NEIGHBORHOOD ASSETS
The Railroad
If the area of Washington Park that surrounds the railway continues to be an industrious location, the rail has the potential to be a great asset for the neighborhood. The railroad is in a location that could serve current and future production companies very well, however, railways are used less today than they were in the past. As a result, many railways in Milwaukee are becoming abandoned.
If the railway were to be abandoned, it could provide a great foundation for a bike path. Given the fact that the railway does not currently connect with any other existing bike paths in Milwaukee, this potential path would be better served as a scenic route or a north-south passage through the specific neighborhood. There is a great opportunity for a new means of recreation for the people of Washington Park should this railway fail in its current duty. |

The Railroad & Wildlife
In Washington Park, the railroad provides a great environment for wildlife to return to the area. Since the railroad corridor is already vegetated it would not be too much of a stretch for wild animals to populate this area; there would also be room for wildlife to roam along the tracks rather than being confined to a small portion of Washington Park.
Empty lots near the train tracks also show potential for bringing wildlife to the people of Washington Park. These lots could be filled in with trees and other vegetation and could feed back into the railroad corridor to create a healthy ecosystem. Bringing wildlife back into this area is beneficial for both the ecosystem and the people, as animals provide a resource for people to learn and enjoy themselves through observation. |
