The Textile Mill
The Textile Mill
Continental Textiles Company was known for sorting old or damaged clothing and repurposing it into products such as wiping rags, yarn, insulation, and carpet padding, just to name a few. When it opened in 1980, the mill sorted over 10,000 pounds of clothes daily, and by the time it was shut down in 1996, that number had grown to over 60,000.
After shutting down in 1996, Continental Textiles Company moved from its location near Washington Park and reopened on N. Green Bay Avenue. Today it is Wisconsin's largest distributor of wiping rags, packaging and selling millions of rags annually. Although boarded up and having the appearance of abandonment, the building that the mill once occupied is still in use as a manufacturing warehouse. |
