NEIGHBORHOOD ASSETS
The "Green Rooms" of Washington Park
The changes that Washington Park saw in its early years help to demonstrate how much power a neighborhood's residents can have in making a place their own. This ideology is still alive today, and all it needs is a starting point.
Sprinkled throughout the Washington Park neighborhood are patches of land that provide perfect opportunities for today's residents to take ownership and make changes. These "green rooms" offer spaces for children to explore their imaginations, hone their creativity, play games, and just be outside. The physical qualities of these spaces range from smaller vacant lots to large surface parking lots. As "green rooms" are found all throughout Washington Park, there is a great opportunity to create special places for all of the area's residents to enjoy. These spaces could become community gathering spaces that could change the face of the neighborhood for the better. |
